POINT PLEASANT BEACH — A petition with 130 names, all wanting the Lake of the Lillies to be dredged, was given to the governing body at Tuesday night's Borough Council meeting.
"Dredging would increase the stormwater storage capacity of the lake, which would result in better flood control during storm events," said Save member Beth Gaelick, who presented the petitions. "It would increase wildlife habitat. And it would ensure the continuation of a lake." She spoke of having to explain to her daughters what happened during the fish kill. "This massive fish kill was the town's wake-up call," she said. "The situation at Lake of the Lillies had become too critical to put off dredging any longer."
Resident Ed Conklin echoed some of her comments, criticizing officials for years of inactivity.
"You never had any intention to dredge the lake. It was all lip service," he said.
